HISTORIC BUILDING
| |
This cultural facility takes as its setting the former La Mercè convent built in the 14th century and used in the 19th century and some of the 20th century as a military hospital. The building retains from the former architecture the square-plan structure with gardened cloister and the annexed church with bell tower, which has the more representative architectural features: Gothic arches, Renaissance choir stall with sculpted corbels and side chapels with exposed stonework. Since 1984 it has been a multidisciplinary cultural centre devoted to art, music and the humanities, while it also hosts events staged by other organisations, such as seminars, congresses and concerts.
